Revere and St. Vincent-St. Mary finish suspended OHSAA sectional baseball final, as Revere wins 8-3

AKRON, Ohio — Mother Nature finally won out on Wednesday evening, as the OHSAA Division II sectional baseball final between St. Vincent-St. Mary and Revere was suspended due to weather in the bottom of the sixth inning with Revere leading 6-3.
The teams returned to the field on Thursday evening to finish the contest, and Revere went home with an 8-3 win.
With the game tied 2-2 through three innings, Revere put up four runs in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Dillon Carlquist and three straight RBI singles by Devin Donich, Ryan Hodgson and Noaln Wertz after STVM intentionally walked Ryan Shimek.
Shimek drove in a run with an RBI double in the first inning and then drove in another with an RBI single in the third.
The two teams played through a rain on Wednesday that began in the first inning and continued to play even as the rain got heavier. With two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning and the rain coming down harder than it had for the rest of the game, the umpires and coaches finally decided the finish of the game should be delayed.
When the game resumed Thursday, STVM had runners on first and second with two outs and the No. 3 hitter in the Fighting Irish lineup – Aistis Miskinis – at the plate. STVM had just scored a run on an RBI single by Shane Adamczyk before the game was suspended. Revere pitcher Ben Halvorson struck out Miskinis to end the threat and the inning.
Revere then added two runs in the top of the seventh inning. Shimek led off the inning with a double and scored on a double by Donich. Hodgson laid down a bunt on the next play and Donich scored on an error on the play.
STVM got a double from Ty Williams with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but Halvorson again ended an inning with a strikeout.
Halvorson went the distance on the bump for Revere, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits. He struck out eight.
Shimek finished the game with three hits, including two doubles and he drove in a pair of runs. Williams, Donich and Wertz each had two hits for the Minutemen.
